InK4DEV workshops in Namibia (9-13 Nov, 2009)

Over 100 senior policy and decision-makers, researchers and information practitioners from Eastern and Southern Africa countries attended the Information and Knowledge for Development (InK4DEV) Week of activities, held 9-13 November 2009 in Windhoek, Namibia. As part of the Week of activities there were three workshops which took place concurrently – a seminar on Knowledge for Development in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities, a workshop on Information and Communication Management Policy and Strategy: From Plan to Action and a training course on the Use of the Smart Toolkit for Monitoring and Evaluation.

A key feature of InK4DEV was the launching of the Smart Toolkit for Evaluating Information Projects, Products and Services (second version) – a publication developed by CTA and its partners where methods and tools are provided to deal with the challenges that information practitioners face in implementing their various projects, products and services. Another key activity was the InK4DEV Fair which allowed participants to showcase the work of their organizations, so that participants could gain an appreciation of the work being carried out in the region.

Participants reacted enthusiastically to the range of activities presented. Some of the key messages coming out of the workshops included the need to continue networking and sharing experiences in the subject areas covered. As a first step, however, many participants have agreed to present what they have learned to their heads with a view to implementing some of the strategies discussed at the workshops. CTA in turn has agreed to support activities relating to ICM policy development and the monitoring and evaluation of information projects, products and services.
